Kampala is the capital city of Uganda. It is in the South Central part of the country close to the shores of Lake Victoria. The people of Kampala and Ugandans in general, are very kind and friendly and are very approachable. Kampala, with a population of approximately 1 million, is by far the largest city in Uganda.
When coming to Kampala by air, you will actually arrive in the city of Entebbe, 35km (22mi) southwest of Kampala.
VISA East African and COMESA countries passport holders do no require entry Visa's into Uganda. However all other passport holders require a Visa that attracts an entry visa fee of $50 USD. Visa's can be obtained at the Uganda missions in the participants respective countries and in the absence of a Ugandan mission, Visa's are also issued at the point of entry, so have the money ready in cash (USD or USh) to pay at passport control as they do not accept credit cards.

VACCINATIONS Normally you will need to show international vaccination certificate for Yellow Fever, however the rule is not applied strictly.

You can get from Entebbe to Kampala via taxi (approx 60,000 USh one way) minibus (approx 3,000Ush one way). Note that taxis charge on average US$30 from the airport to the city centre (one-way).
DRESS CODE The general dress code for the event is smart casual. Presenters are however requested to dress in official attire when making their presentations. The dress code for the cocktail and the dinner is also smart casual.

CURRENCY AND CURRENCY EXCHANGE INFORMATION The currency of Uganda is the Uganda Shillings (/-).
The notes and coins that are currently in circulation are:

There are plenty of places you can exchange your money for Ugandan Shillings. You will be able to find Forex Exchange Bureaus at all hotels provided or in town.
The current exchange rate is about UGX 2170 to the US dollar. You can find more exact exchange rates at the Bank of Uganda website. Please note that most ATM's accept major credit/debit cards: Visa, Master Cards etc.

LANGUAGE
The official language of Uganda is English. Luganda and Kishwahili (local languages) are widely spoken in Kampala.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT Commuter mini buses and taxis (special hire) are the main means of public transport in Kampala. There are both buses and mini buses for inter-city services. Distances are relatively short and road surfaces good.
FORUM COSTS
Participation to the Forum is absolutely free. However unless clearly stated, participants are advised to settle their accommodation and related bills during their stay in Kampala.
ELECTRICITY AND ELECTRICAL OUTLETS

INTERNET CONNECTION
There will be free wireless internet connectivity at the meeting venue. The hotels provide internet connectivity at the business centre; please inquire at the hotel’s reception during check in for rates, charges and requirements.
MEALS
Breakfast is included in the hotel room fees.
Coffee breaks and lunch during the meeting period will be catered. The cocktail and the social event (dinner) will also be catered for.
Please inform us by 25th July 2010, if you have any special dietary and health requirements and we will inform the hotel. Do bring your own medication for all your known needs.
SECURITY Kampala is one of the safest cities in the region. There number security guards in almost all corners of streets which promotes a sense of security while moving within the city. During the day, it’s active and busy with human and automobile traffic. It is however advised not to carry or expose valuable items. At night, its encouraged to use taxicabs to commute from one point to another.
REGISTRATION
Registration will be start at 08:00am on 11th August 2010 at the entrance to the meeting venue. Conference materials and the meetings programme will be provided during registration.
